Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of event-related rumination and coping strategies as a moderator in the relationship between optimism and post-traumatic growth. So we examined the moderating effects of event-related rumination deliberate rumination) and coping strategies(acceptance, denial, mental disengagement coping) on the relationship between optimism and post-traumatic growth. The results from multiple regression analysis indicated that the effect of optimism on post-traumatic growth was positively moderated by the deliberate rumination, and was negatively moderated by denial and mental disengagement coping. In other words, this study demonstrated that the deliberate rumination had an escalating effect, while denial and mental disengagement coping had buffering effects on the relationship between optimism and post-traumatic growth. These results suggest the intervention on event-related deliberate rumination and particular coping strategies would be useful to encourage the post-traumatic growth for the people who experienced traumatic events. Limitations of the results and suggestions for future research were discussed.
